Follow this this engaged-learning winter break program where ILRies join students from Ton Duc Thang University in Ho Chi Minh City to learn about labor relations and alternative dispute resolution in Vietnam. Together they will engage in a case study that will provide a greater understanding of conflict resolution and labor in the Vietnamese context. This program is sponsored ILR's Sheinman Institute and managed by ILR's International Programs.

Meet the 2024 ILR Vietnam Engaged-Learning Students!
Song L. BSILR'26
Hello all! My name is Song, and I’m a sophomore transfer from Emory University to Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations. On campus, I am a Cornell Asian Pacific Student Union(CAPSU) ambassador, an Elevating Asians mentee in the A3C professional development program, an actor in the Shakespeare Troupe at Cornell’s theatre production for Romeo and Juliet, and an active member of the Korean American Students Association (KASA). I am also an active member of the Asian Pacific Americans for Action (APAA) and the Cornell Minority ILR Student Organization. I plan to pursue a pre-law track with a focus on immigration, labor, and employment to enact progressive change within the legal system. I am so grateful to be a part of the Vietnam Engaged Learning program, and I hope to gain a deeper understanding of labor relations and be completely immersed in global politics at an epicenter of immigration. I also cannot wait to connect with the TDTU students, try new dishes, and explore!

Hello everyone! My name is Eva and I’m a sophomore in the school of Industrial and Labor Relations, pursuing a minor in Healthcare Policy. I’m originally from Durham, North Carolina. Academically, I am specifically interested in union organizing, economic policy, and domestic and international labor history. For fun, I write and perform in a sketch comedy group and compete in Speech events on the debate team! I am beyond excited to experience Vietnam, travel with the ILR cohort, and meet TDTU students!

Hello Everyone! My name is Carlene and I am a senior in the ILR school with minors in Law and Society and Feminist, Gender, and Sexualities Studies. On campus I am a current research assistant for the Africa Futures Project and the Volunteer Coordinator for the Ithaca Tenants Union Legal Hotline, I am also a part of the Student Assembly Ethics Committee, Vice President of Wanawake wa Wari a black woman's cooperative housing on campus and one of the co-leads for the MacCormick Juvenile Center Chess/Games program. Last summer, I spent a month in Hanoi, Vietnam as part of the Adverse Childhood Experience Pathfinders Research and Community Collaboration Internship. During my time there, I collaborated with students at VinUniversity to explore the enduring effects of childhood trauma and conducted interviews with those who had experienced such impacts in their lives. After I graduate would like to go into the realm of international relations, human rights law, policy, and community organizing that focuses on Africa, South/Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America. In my free time, I love to spend time with friends and host get-togethers, cook, play piano, and draw. I am very excited to get to get to know everyone in the program and make strong connections with the TDTU students. I can't wait to see you all soon!

Hi, my name is Colin Rodriguez and I’m a senior studying Industrial and Labor Relations with a minor in Business. I have spent nearly my entire life in Parkland, Florida, even interning in my home state in HR for an aerospace company on the Space Coast. Besides that, I have also worked as an HR intern supporting international operations in the UAE and India. These experiences have helped me develop a great interest in international studies related to rising economies, defense industries, and manufacturing. This has also inspired me to even take on volunteering initiatives for Ukrainians learning English; I even enrolled in Cornell’s Ukrainian Language class. On campus, I am the former President of Alpha Sigma Phi (Rockledge), current VP of Programming for Cornell’s Interfraternity Council, and a marketing confidant for Combat Robotics @ Cornell. I hope to work internationally in the future, and am looking into careers in consulting and executive compensation.

Hello! My name is Di and I am a junior studying ILR with minors in Law & Society and Business. I am originally from Zhengzhou, China. I hope to work in the field of international labor law or human rights law in the future. In the past summer, I interned at an international law firm working on bond structuring and debt litigation cases. On campus, I work as the vice president of Mainland China Student Association and a research fellow assisting a project on the impacts of China’s incorporation in globalization on the labor economy of neighboring countries. In my free time, I enjoy watching documentaries, playing soccer, or just spending time with friends. I am excited to learn more about the economic development in Vietnam in recent years and labor relations from a global perspective. I also look forward to connecting with TDTU students during this experience.

Hi all! My name is Zohar G., and I am a junior at Cornell’s Industrial and Labor Relations School. I am intending on minoring in Law and Society and have an interest in conflict resolution and labor! I am originally from New Jersey. On campus, I am involved with the Worker Institute as a research fellow, a peer mentor for local high school students through a pre-college program known as Upward Bound, and as a guide for Cornell’s pre-orientation backpacking trips. 1. Trương Thị Thanh Nga
Hi, my name is Thanh Nga. I am a junior studying Labor Relations at Ton Duc Thang University. I was born and raised in Ho Chi Minh City. In my spare time, I enjoy listening to music, watching movies, and chatting with friends - this is the reason I joined this program, where I can share knowledge and build a nice relationship with the outside community. I’m looking forward to learn new information about the field of labor relations with friends of Cornell University. This will almost certainly be remembered in my student’s education as an unforgettable experience.
2. Trần Thị Ngọc Trâm
Hello! My name is Tram and you can call me Rosie. I am living in Vietnam, specifically Ho Chi Minh City. I’m a sophomore at TDT University, my major is Labor Relations. I am a lover of RnB music and dogs, in my free time I often read books, drink coffee with friends, watch Netflix. By the way, I am extremely excited to join the Vietnam Engaged Learning Program with Cornell University students. Looking forward to learning from your experience.
3. Nguyễn Huỳnh Kim Ngân
Hi, I'm Kim Ngan, or you can call me Kathy. I am currently a third-year student at Ton Duc Thang University in Labor Relations. Also, I am working in Vietnamese Students’ Association as a Vice Chairman at class level, and work as an invigilator of the Department of Testing and Quality Assessment of Ton Duc Thang University. I enjoy reading, cooking, crocheting, singing and spending time with my family when I have freetime. During the Exchange Program, I'm really looking forward to knowing and discussing Labor Relations in Vietnam and the U.S., widening my knowledge and making new friends from other countries. I'm very grateful for this opportunity that TDTU students can make friends, work with and learn from the others, especially from Cornell students.

Hello everyone! My name is Trang, I am currently a junior at Ton Duc Thang University. I am majoring in Labor Relations. I am living with my family in Phan Thiet city, which has many beautiful sand beaches and fresh seafood. I keen on working with people, planning and holding some activities that help bring people together. In my free time, I like crocheting, writing, reading books and studying through videos on Youtube. I am so excited to get acquainted with Cornell students to know more about culture, learning program in the U.S. and find out the differences in Labor Relations between the two countries.
5. Nguyễn Thị Thu Ngân
Nice to greet you all, my birth name is Ngan (Ngan Nguyen), I also named myself Lucia, which means ‘light’, the keyword that I always head myself towards from years ago. I am currently a senior student in Labor Relations at Ton Duc Thang University. Besides my major, I am also intensely passionate about psychology, spiritual things, Buddhism, fortune reading, mind reading, body language and so on. Reading is my main method to release anxiety, I also enjoy walking, swimming, learning languages and petting animals. Having chances to meet and acquaint talented individuals from ILR School would be a big honor for me, especially when we have the same field of study. I am so excited to be part of the program to learn and improve along with Cornell students. During 2 weeks of the Exchange Program in HCMC, I hope that we could aware of much more about Labor Relations in Vietnam and The U.S., improve my debating skills also public speaking skills in English, recognize also understand more insights about The U.S. culture and people there.

Hello, my name is Thanh Vy or you can call me Vy. I’m currently a sophomore, majoring in Labor Relation at Ton Duc Thang University. Although I was born and raised in Ho Chi Minh, which is a sleepless city, with hustle and bustle lifestyle, I usually prefer to spend my free time preparing home-cooked dishes for my family and friends than enjoying nightlife in HCMC ^^. I’m delighted to have an opportunity involved in ILR Vietnam Engaged Learning Program to share our culture, perspective of labor relation and economics throughout the world, especially in Vietnam and US. Heyyy! I'm glad to introduce myself to you. My Vietnamese name is Trần Minh Như, but you can call me by my English name is Elys. I am a current sophomore studying Labor Relation and Trade Union at Ton Duc Thang University. On campus, I'm now a member of scientific research team. I also work as a sales assistant and tailor's assistant at a local luxury brand in district 1. In my freetime, I love browsing Instagram, Tiktok... (I guess there are many people just like me), and reading both books and ebooks. At present, I am learning Italian, but it really hard to learn by myself, so i think I'll register to the Italian soon. I'd be very happy if anyone wanna learn Italian with me!
